Mouldings are typically made from wood, but can be manufactured from plastic, stone, and other materials. The shaped strip is fitted as a decorative architectural feature. Usually, features of this kind will be fitted in a cornice, which is around the wall of a room, just below the ceiling.
Here at WD Richard Burbidge, we have hundreds of architectural and decorative mouldings that can add character to any room, transforming your home with a unique style.
We offer an extensive collection of timber mouldings, including angles and covers, coving and dowels, decorative trims and glass beads, picture frames and quadrants as well as scotias and strip-wood. Coving refers to the concave moulding or arched section of wall surface, whilst dowels are necessary to hold together different elements of a structure. Scotias are concave mouldings that are especially used in a classical style at the bases of columns.
For a more contemporary feel, we also have a variety of plastic and aluminium edgings and lippings available. We also supply a range of skirting boards, architrave, dado and picture rails, which are supplied in white oak, pine and white finished. Skirting boards are usually wooden boards that run along the base of an interior wall. Architrave can refer to either a main beam resting across the tops of columns, or the moulded frame around doorways and windows. Dado rails are decorative mouldings that are waist-high, which look stylish, but also have the practical purpose of offering protection to the wall from damage.
If you want to evoke a particular period, we have styles ranging from New England pine, to traditional Victorian and traditional Victorian Gothic, to Edwardian and Georgian, so you are sure to find something that suits your home.
