Trademark Hemlock Over The Post

Here at Richard Burbidge, we offer a wide selection of nearly fifty items in our trademark hemlock over the post range. Recognised by its pale brown colour and straight grained, even texture, Western hemlock is a non-resinous, North American softwood. This type of wood is perfect for staining, varnishing and painting, so you can create the staircase of your dreams with this solid base.

As part of the over the post range of hemlock products, we offer continuous handrail stair parts including spindles, newels, and relevant bases. Spindles are available in a variety of baluster designs from a basic plain stick and Stop Chamfer balusters to sophisticated Windsor and Georgian turned spindles in 900mm lengths for the stairs, and 1100mm lengths for landings. Additionally, tulip newel turnings are suitable for continuous handrails and measure at 675mm long, while the volute newels are 890mm in length. Furthermore, we can provide hemlock plain newels, newel bases, complete newels, winder newels, and intermediate newels.

The hemlock over the post range offers you a chance to truly customise your staircase in the style and colours of your choice to complement your home or property. The fact that western hemlock is resin-free means it will easily accept any paint, stain or varnish with better results likely when compared to the eastern species.
