Check that you have all the parts for your Fusion boxed handrail kit. Wonkee Donkee says "If there’s a problem with any of the handrail items, now’s the time to let us know! Remember, because of the different wall constructions, we do not include the wall plugs. Select the appropriate wall plug for your wall to accept the No.10 x 50mm screws included."

Step 1 – Check that you have all the parts

The Fusion boxed handrail kits will give a straight handrail run of up to 3600mm.

Check and identify all components, making sure you have everything you need before you start.

Fusion components, WONKEE DONKEE says:If you don’t want to leave a mark on your wall or wall covering, place a small piece of masking tape on the wall as you make each mark, then roll out a length of masking tape between these marks before drawing the line with your pencil. Don’t press too hard.

Step 2 – Mark wall

Measure 765mm vertically up from the stair pitch line (the line that connects all the stair nosings), and make a mark. Do this in about 4 or 5 places along the stairs. Lightly draw a line that passes through all these points.

Richard Burbidge Fusion boxed handrail kits WONKEE DONKEE says "TIP: To save confusion when there are a number of marks, draw a circle (or square, etc) around the ones you need. Numbering the marks or using a different colour marker can also help to identify your markings to avoid making mistakes."

Step 3 - Mid-point

Mark out the mid-point of the handrail run on the previously marked line. From this, measure and mark on the same line, 600mm back towards the bottom of the stairs.

Richard burbidge, Fusion boxed wall handrail kit, WONKEE DONKEE says: "Remember to use the correct type of wall plug for your wall, and the right size for the included No.10 x 50mm screws. Before drilling, ensure that you have the correct drill size for the wall plug. Refer to the wall plug manufacturers instructions. Be aware that your drill may wander if the plaster is soft and the bricks are hard."

Step 4 - Mark bracket position

Position one of the brackets against the wall so that it is lined up centrally to your 600mm mark.
Ensure that the top two holes in the bracket are central to the line. Mark through the three holes to give their centre positions on the wall. Remove the bracket and drill and plug the three holes into your wall. Secure the bracket to the wall using the three No.10 x 50mm screws supplied.

Fusion Handrail kit fitting instructions WONKEE DONKEE says: "To avoid damaging the bracket, mark the hole positions with a pencil and remove the bracket before drilling the pilot holes. The pilot holes guide the screws into the rails and prevent the timber splitting. The pilot hole must be smaller than the screw otherwise the screw won’t bite into the rail."

Step 5 - Insert handrail

Insert one of the handrail lengths into one of the brackets so that it is halfway onto the sleeve. This will be the centre section of rail. Pilot drill through the centre of the bracket holes into the timber using a 3mm drill bit. Fix the handrail to the bracket using two of the No.8 x 38 screws supplied.

Contemporary Fusion, WONKEE DONKEE says: "Although it is possible to do this on your own, it may be useful to have a second pair of hands to help you. They can, for example, ensure that the handrail doesn't move in the 1st bracket sleeve while you’re setting the 2nd bracket."

Step 6 - Mark 2nd bracket position

Place this assembly against the wall and into the bracket already fixed to the wall. Insert the rail
halfway into the sleeve. Position the lower wall bracket against the wall so that its two top holes
line up centrally with your marked line. Mark the three hole positions onto the wall, drill, plug and fix in place as in step 4. Secure the handrail to the first bracket with the supplied screws as in step 5.
