The Trademark range is available in several types of wood:

  • White oak

  • Pine

  • Hemlock

If you're intending to paint the balustrade you may prefer to order white pre-primed stair parts. These will save you valuable time and effort when it comes to installation.

White oak

A classic look and traditional appeal combine to make oak stair balustrades ideal for homes where quality is important. Native to north America, white oak represents a premium option and is renowned for its strength and longevity.

This beautiful, straight-grained hardwood has no knots and is prized for its beautiful colouring, which ranges from yellowy brown to a biscuit-type tan.

The timber is exceptionally durable. Once it has been installed and finished, you'll find white oak will retain its quality for a lifetime.

  Trademark taper

White oak is also used in the construction of Richard Burbidge's eye-catching Trademark Taper stair parts collection.

This innovative range offers a winning combination of classic American staircase design and contemporary British flair.

The resulting balustrade features a series of gently tapering balusters along with matching handrail, baserail and newels for a subtly modern look.

And the sturdy oak construction ensures that the staircase banisters will remain in great shape for many years to come, providing a superb focal point for your hallway.

Pine

Also known as European redwood, pine is a creamy yellow Scandinavian softwood grown in sustainable forests and plantations.

Its affordability makes pine an extremely popular timber among trade professionals as well as home owners on a tight budget, especially if the stair balustrade is going to be painted.

Pine is prone to knots, which should be treated with a specialist knot sealant before staining or painting. Alternatively, you may want to consider our range of pre-primed stair parts and save yourself some time and trouble.

Hemlock

With a light-coloured uniform grain, this attractive softwood is similar to pine but has the great advantage of being virtually knot-free.

Because it is cheaper than oak, hemlock offers the best of both worlds, combining the cost benefits of pine with the good looks and character of much more expensive timbers.

These qualities make it an ideal solution for anyone seeking a modestly priced staircase balustrade that can be treated in whatever colour woodstain they prefer to produce a natural finish. Hemlock is also suitable for painting or varnishing.

White primed stair parts

For installers eager to save time (and therefore money), the Trademark collection is also available in pre-primed timber.

Spindles, newel posts, newel caps, handrails and baserails can be supplied ready-coated with a white oil-based primer, sparing you the trouble and expense of having to treat unfinished wood. Installation will be so much quicker - you just need to apply an undercoat and top coat to finish off.

Primed components are manufactured from Chinese birch, a reliable, cost-effective hardwood that is easy to work with.

  Trademark metal spindles

For something a bit different, consider using decorative metal spindles instead of wooden ones. There are six designs to choose from, all made from black powder-coated mild steel which has been shaped to produce a wrought-iron effect. You can attach the spindles to the Trademark handrail and baserail using a convenient bracket fix option.

You don't have to stick to just one style - many home owners like to get creative by mixing two different designs of baluster to make an alternating pattern. You can also paint the spindles to match your decor if desired. Please be aware, however, that the metal spindle system is only suitable for use on staircases with a pitch of 42°.

If you like the look of these metal balusters but would prefer to match them with premium oak stair components, check out our Elements balustrade collection.

Advantages of Trademark stairs

Versatile

A large selection of both wooden and metal spindles, or balusters, with a choice of designs and materials, make the Trademark range extremely flexible. The spindles are available in two sizes: 32mm to fit stairways, and 41mm for installation on landings.

You may decide to opt for an economical post-to-post version in pine or white-primed timber, or splash out on a white oak balustrade with a sweeping continuous handrail - either way, the Trademark collection will have something to suit.

Strong and straightforward

Trademark stair parts allow you to restyle your stairs easily, to a budget that suits you. The Taper range has pre-drilled handrails, pre-cut rake spindles and twist brackets to aid installation. A bespoke look is achievable quickly and affordably.

And if you choose pre-primed components the process will be even faster, as you won't be hanging around waiting for the oil-based primer to dry.

Robust as well as good-looking, the Trademark range has been designed and tested to resist loadings of 0.36N/m, conforming fully to UK building regulations. The white oak post-to-post system is particularly strong, meeting all the legal requirements for light commercial as well as domestic use.
